Classes

Introductory Nights - First Wednesday of each Month*.
Mainstream Class Intro Nights September 3 & 10, 2008
Mainstream Class Starts September 17th 2008
Plus Class starting Spring 2009

The Oaktown 8's will offer a beginners class (basic & mainstream), which meets Wednesday nights. Class is 7:00 pm -9:00 pm. Intermixed with the intro tips we dance to floor level that may include mainstream, Plus, and the occassional "A" tip.

No Partner is required (though couples are welcome)

Being Gay/Lesbian/Bi/TG not required.

Alcohol Free environment

Variety of music - not just country. You may hear a country tune, you may also hear Queen, Abba, Neal Diamond, or some oldies but goodies from the 50's thru today. The only thing the songs have in comon is you can square dance to them.

Mainstream Class is about 24 weeks long covering approximately 55 calls
Plus class is about is about 12 weeks long consisitng of approximately 30 calls

Square Dancing does require learning calls, which are the building blocks of other calls. It is recommended class members not miss 2 weeks in a row, or more than 4 weeks total as that makes it difficult to learn as well as teach.

Our classes are pay as you go, so there is no large upfront cost. Cost is anticipated to be approximately $5.00 - $10.00 per class night (depending on the size of the class and ability to pay)

No "Traditional"attire required. We dance in street clothes. You may occasionally see a petticoat, but NEVER on the women.

Our club is part of the International Association of Gay Square Dance Associations. Once you have learned to dance, you can dance with other clubs in the Bay Area, across the US and Canada, even in Japan or Denmark.
