About Oaktown 8s and the New Dancer Program
Starting September 22th in San Leandro Cost will be $125/$145 per student for 12 classes.
The Oaktown 8s LGBT Square Dance Club is pleased to announce that we will offer a New Dancer Class beginning in September, 2018. No previous experience is required. The class will meet on Saturday afternoons from 12 to 2 o'clock at the San Leandro Marina Community Center, 15301 Wicks Blvd, San Leandro, in Multipurpose Room A in the Activities Center. The first meeting will be on Saturday, Sept. 22, and our teacher will be Kurt Gollhardt. Classes will continue for 12 Saturdays, skipping Nov 24 for Thanksgiving. The final class will be December 15. $125 for San Leandro residents, $145 for non-residents.
The class will teach the fundamentals of Modern Western Square Dance. It is intended both for people who have never danced before and for people who danced many years ago and want to refresh their skills. On completing this 12-week course, you’ll be able to dance at “SSD50” and other beginner-level dances, and you can join us at our Wednesday club nights for more dancing. Next year, we’ll offer a second course, in which students will complete the "Mainstream" dance level, allowing them to dance with clubs around the Bay Area and around the world.
Oaktown 8s is one of several Modern Square Dance groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are Oakland's friendly, local, gay, straight and otherwise welcoming club. We belong to an international association of gay and lesbian square dance groups, the IAGSDC and welcome everyone who would like to joins us in enjoying Modern Square Dancing.
Come on your own or with a partner. No special outfits required. Just come as you are and be prepared to have a good time. We recommend comfortable shoes with low traction. (Avoid sneakers with deep treads, heavy boots, and high heels.) Please, no heavy perfumes or other strong scents.
Classes will be preceded by two FREE Square Dance Intro Parties, where prospective students can dance with club members and get a feel for what's involved in Modern Western Square Dance and how much fun it can be. One will be at our Wednesday club night; one will be at our Saturday lesson time. Here is the schedule:
